Now I’ll get into the finer details regarding this particular ConnecTunes headset model from Elvex. I’ll cover the primary characteristics of any hearing protection headset as well as go over all of the extra features offered with this model.

Noise Reduction Rating (NRR)

This headset has an NRR of 22, which is not very high compared to other similarly priced models. Because of the limited hearing protection offered, this headset would be ideal for some of the less-intense noise environments that still have the potential to damage your ears over long periods of time, such as mowing the lawn or working with woodworking tools. If you’re looking for something to use in a heavy industrial setting or an environment with extremely loud noise, you should look for headsets that offer a higher NRR (Insert two or three examples and links).

In addition to protecting you from outside sounds, this headset also protects you from listening to your music (or whatever it is you listen to) too loudly by limiting the speaker output to 82DB. This is a great feature because people forget that even if you’re protecting your ears from outside sounds you can still damage them if you’re blasting your music too loudly.

Battery Life

According to the manufacturer’s information, you should be able to make it 2-4 weeks with minimal usage, but in my experience, batteries never seem to last as long as the “official” documentation tells you they will.

The headset uses 2 AA batteries and these are included with your order. If you would like to save on battery expenses, you can convert the headphones to a rechargeable system by purchasing two NiMH rechargeable batteries and charging them through the built-in micro USB charger port.

Bluetooth

Regarding the Bluetooth capabilities of this headset, it is more than capable of wirelessly connecting to any Bluetooth enabled device that is within range. That being said, you’ll pretty much have to have the device on your person as the range is typically 10 feet or less. You are also able to control basic audio functions from the headset as well, such as, answering and ending phone calls, controlling the music playlist or podcast you are listening to, and adjusting the volume.

Phone Calls & Microphone

In regards to phone calls, you are able to easily send or receive them with the touch of a button. On top of this, the headset will actually tell you the number of an incoming call you are receiving. This will be great if you’re like me and hate answering the phone without knowing who it is, which means I need to hurry and try to get my phone out of my pocket while I’m busy at work.

Microphone

There is a built-in microphone equipped with noise canceling technology to ensure that the person on the other end of the line will be able to hear you even when you’re in a noisy environment. The microphone is mounted on a flexible boom which allows you to position it where it is most comfortable as well as put it up and out of the way while it’s not in use.

Radio

Although this headset does have the ability to pick up radio stations, it’s widely regarded within just about every review on Amazon that the reception is less than ideal. If you live in a rural area you will definitely have trouble getting any stations consistently.

Sound Volume/Quality

The sound that is put out by the speakers, both from Bluetooth and AUX connections, is quite good. It won’t absolutely blow you away, but it won’t disappoint either.

Size & Comfort

The dimensions of this headset are 6.125″ x 4.25″ x 8.25″, which is a fairly normal size for this type of headphones. The headband is stainless steel and uses a fork-type style to reduce the amount of pressure on your head. The headband is padded and the ear cushions are nice and soft. All of these features allow for a comfortable fit for many hours at a time.

Durability

As long as you take care of your pair and don’t do anything crazy with them, they should last for as long as you’d expect them to. They’re not built for extreme conditions or lots of water exposure, but under normal circumstances, they’ll hold up just fine.

Other

This headset does have a battery saving auto shut-off function that will turn the headphones off after 4 hours of inactivity.

There is a 3.5 mm Aux jack port available in case you’d rather connect your devices with a chord than by using Bluetooth. This also allows you to use devices that may not be Bluetooth enabled as well.

Price

This headset from Elvex will run you about $187 on Amazon, which is right in the middle of the price range.

Conclusion

The Elvex Com-660W ConnecTunes Wireless Pairing Ear Muff offers some more features than lower priced headsets, but also lacks in some areas when compared to similarly priced ones, especially the fact that it only has an NRR of 22, which is much lower than some others. That being said  if you’re looking to spend a little money, but not willing to pay out hundreds and hundreds of dollars for a hearing protection headset that is Bluetooth enabled, then this set will probably work for you.
