Summary

The Walkers Game Ear Muff Ultimate Digital Quad Connect Muff with Bluetooth is a fairly popular option for many hunters and range shooters. It has a nice compact size and a fairly high NRR (coming in at 27) so it will do its job protecting your ears. That being said, the sound volume is too low and it is, in many cases, nearly impossible to actually hear what is coming from your Bluetooth connection.

In-Depth Review

Now we’ll get into the in-depth part of this review. If you’d like to learn about the common features of Bluetooth enabled hearing protection devices and why they are important to be considered, check out this post:

What to Consider When Purchasing Bluetooth Hearing Protection

Noise Reduction Rating (NRR)

This headset uses sound dampening composite housing technology as well as sound activated compression to give an NRR of 27. This is actually a fairly high rating compared to many other similar headsets. The sound activated compression is specifically calibrated to protect your hearing from sudden bangs such as gunshots and has a 0.02 second reaction time.

Even though this headset has a high NRR, it still allows you to pick up distant sounds of creatures in the woods or voices and noises going on at the gun range. It does this by using four Hi-Gain Omnidirectional microphones with low noise and frequency sensitivity. These microphones allow you to adjust and tune independent frequencies to isolate the exact sounds you want to hear.

Battery Life

This headset uses 2 AAA batteries which are included in your purchase. Given that it only uses two small batteries, it won’t have a battery life worth bragging about. I can’t say for sure how long they will last you as it depends on which features you are using and for how long.

If you do end up purchasing this Walker headset, I’d encourage you to get your hands on a couple sets of Ni-MH rechargeable batteries to ensure you always have some available to change out.  They will also to save you loads of cash along the way. I have a feeling you’d go through AAA batteries like crazy if you plan on using these things on a regular basis or for long periods of continuous use.

Microphone

There is an integrated communication microphone built into this headset which allows you to make and receive phone calls without having to get your device out of your pocket. You are also able to give voice commands to whatever Bluetooth-enabled device you are connected to.

Sound Volume/Quality

This is where we run into our biggest problems with this headset. Per many, many reviews on Amazon, the audio, whether it is music, podcasts, or phone calls, coming from your Bluetooth connection has a very low volume. You can have the volume on both your device and the headset maxed out and still not be able to hear it at times.

walkers-game-ear-muff-ultimate-digital-quad-connect-muff-with-bluetooth-pictureSize & Comfort

This headset comes in at a size of 3.5 x 8 x 5.2 inches and is designed to fold up into a compact position, which is great for storage.

It is built with a comfort focused headband with a metal wire frame ensuring maximum strength and comfort. They also have low profile ear cups so they’re not sticking out on the side of your head too much like some other headsets do. This design is definitely a plus for hunters and shooters.

Price

Given the audio issues with this headset, I do feel like this pair is overpriced. They are currently running about $185 on Amazon. I believe you can get better headsets for as much or less if you do your due diligence and research all the options.

Conclusion

In conclusion, as stated throughout this review, this headset does have some major issues, especially when it comes to the volume of the audio you can get from your Bluetooth devices. It is simply too soft to hear it in loud environments. If you’re just looking for a headset to block out dangerous noises in your environment, then this headset may be right for you.

However, if you’re looking for a device that will block loud environmental noise as well as allow you to listen to high-quality audio from your paired Bluetooth devices, then I’d suggest you look elsewhere!

Peace,
Dustin
